Zubair Ahmad Dar, the General Secretary of the Baramulla Cricket Forum, commended the Indian Army for their role in launching the Chinar Premier League (CPL), calling it a vital step for cricket and sports in Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that the tournament is being conducted simultaneously across various districts and expressed appreciation for the Army's efforts in fostering sports and creating opportunities for local cricketers.

Inauguration of the Chinar Premier League

The CPL 2026 was officially inaugurated at the Gen Bipin Rawat Stadium in Baramulla on Sunday. Dar remarked, "This tournament, which was organized today, is the Chinar Premier League... The management of the Indian Army has made it possible for such a large-scale tournament to occur in every district at once. This is a significant achievement for both cricketers and sports enthusiasts. We are immensely thankful to the Indian Army for this positive initiative in the tournament."

A Platform for Emerging Talent

Supported by the Indian Army and modeled after the IPL format, this extensive cricket tournament features 79 teams from the Kashmir, Jammu, and Ladakh regions. Matches will take place at seven different venues, offering local young cricketers a substantial platform to display their skills before home audiences. The initiative aims to encourage sports among youth, develop local cricket talent, and inspire future athletes in the region. Wajahat Farooq Bhat, Chairman of the Save Youth Save Future Foundation, also lauded the Chinar Premier League as a significant opportunity for athletes, especially cricketers in Jammu and Kashmir. He acknowledged the Indian Army's initiative in organizing the tournament and emphasized its importance in promoting and supporting local sports talent.
