In the sixth match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) achieved an impressive total of 209 runs while facing the Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.
After being asked to bat first, the team led by Ruturaj Gaikwad lost their initial wicket early in the second over when Sanju Samson was dismissed for just seven runs, caught behind off a delivery from Xavier Bartlett. Ayush Mhatre stepped in at number three and formed a significant partnership, scoring 96 runs alongside his captain.
Mhatre Shines with a Quick Half-Century
Mhatre reached his first half-century of the season in a mere 31 balls, quickly accelerating his innings. He targeted Marcus Stoinis, hitting him for two sixes. The 18-year-old finished with a rapid 73 runs off 43 balls, including six fours and five sixes.
Gaikwad, unfortunately, could not capitalize on his start, getting out for 28 runs off 22 balls after being caught by Nehal Wadhera off Yuzvendra Chahal's bowling.
Other Contributions to CSK's Total
Kartik Sharma struggled again, scoring only one run before being dismissed by Marco Jansen. Sarfaraz Khan made a quick impact, scoring 32 runs off just 12 balls, featuring six fours and a six.
Shivam Dube then took charge, remaining unbeaten with 45 runs off 27 balls, which included five fours and a six. Prashant Veer also contributed with six runs, helping CSK to a formidable total of 209 runs.
Punjab Kings' Challenging Chase
Vijaykumar Vyshak was the standout bowler for Punjab, finishing with figures of 2 wickets for 38 runs. Chahal, Jansen, and Bartlett each took one wicket.
To secure a win, the Punjab Kings now need to chase down a target of 210 runs, aiming for their second consecutive victory of the season. Meanwhile, CSK is eager to secure their first win after losing their opening match against the Rajasthan Royals.
