Chennai Super Kings' Anshul Kamboj Meets His Viral Lookalike
An Unexpected Encounter at Chepauk
During a practice session at Chepauk Stadium on May 12, Anshul Kamboj, a pacer for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), was taken by surprise when he met his viral lookalike. This doppelganger is an Army official who gained popularity after being seen at the swearing-in ceremony of Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, actor-turned-politician Vijay.
Fans on social media quickly noticed the striking resemblance, prompting veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin to join the fun. He humorously suggested on X (formerly Twitter) that Kamboj should 'get a cab and get to Chepauk ASAP' for the crucial match against the Lucknow Super Giants.
A Day of Significance
Ashwin's tweet gained traction, adding a humorous twist to a significant day for Tamil Nadu, marking the end of over fifty years of Dravidian rule as C. Joseph Vijay took office as Chief Minister. Coincidentally, Vijay's swearing-in occurred just hours before CSK's match against the Lucknow Super Giants, where Kamboj showcased his skills on the field.
After their victory over the Super Giants, the CSK team remained in Chennai for additional training sessions before heading to Lucknow for the next match on May 15.
Meeting the Lookalike
The doppelganger, a security official present during the CM's swearing-in, was invited to Chepauk Stadium after his image went viral. In a video shared by CSK on its X account, Kamboj, visibly sweaty from practice, was surprised to find the security official waiting near the dugout. The two shared a warm moment and took a photo together.
Kamboj's Humorous Take on the Meme
The image of Kamboj alongside his lookalike has become a hot topic, leading to a funny response from the pacer. In the same video, Kamboj expressed his amusement at the social media buzz surrounding their resemblance.
He mentioned that his Instagram was flooded with messages about the meme, saying, 'Everyone is just asking me what are you doing there?' He humorously added, 'Actually, he looks a bit like me, not fully. Maybe when he removes his cap, then I will get to see more.'
Kamboj's Performance in IPL 2026
Currently, Anshul Kamboj is the leading wicket-taker for CSK in IPL 2026, boasting 19 wickets with an average of 19.21 and an economy rate of 9.20 across 11 matches.
