Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Faces Backlash

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation is currently engulfed in turmoil. Despite the government's clear directive to halt the installation of smart meters, the corporation is aggressively promoting prepaid smart meters. Consumer organizations and opposition parties have accused the government of covertly continuing this practice.

In response to the increasing complaints regarding smart meters, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has established a four-member technical committee. The installation of meters was ordered to be paused until this committee submits its report. However, despite daily statements from the energy minister, UPPCL continues to run online campaigns promoting these meters. The imposition of prepaid meters for new connections is a blatant violation of regulations.

This contradictory approach has sparked outrage across the state, leading to protests in several districts. The consumer council has written to the regulatory commission demanding the exposure of this 'syndicate.' Officials, including the additional chief secretary of the energy department, have remained completely silent on the matter. It appears there is a lack of coordination between government decisions and UPPCL's operations, causing distress among the public.
