Incident at Jantar Mantar

On Saturday, a scene of chaos unfolded at Jantar Mantar when a woman hurled a liquid resembling ink at Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), while he was addressing a gathering at the protest site. This unexpected act caused a brief disruption in the event as supporters rushed towards the stage, leading to a commotion. The incident occurred amidst heightened tensions at the protest location, where CJP activists have been demonstrating since June 6, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET paper leak.

Health Concerns and Allegations

Earlier that day, Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on an indefinite hunger strike for 20 days, was hospitalized after his health deteriorated. He was taken to the hospital following directives from the Delhi High Court and advice from medical experts. Shortly after, Dipke accused the Delhi police of forcibly removing Wangchuk, claiming he was assaulted while trying to reach Jantar Mantar. Dipke stated that the protests would continue, expressing his outrage, "It is shameful. The Delhi police acted like thugs, dragging him away as if he were a criminal."

Continued Protests and March Plans

Despite Wangchuk's removal from the protest site, Dipke announced his own hunger strike, stating, "I will begin my fast today. We will also march on July 20, and my fast will continue." He emphasized that authorities cannot end the protest by taking Wangchuk away. Meanwhile, sources from the Delhi police indicated that the CJP has not yet sought permission for the proposed march to Parliament on July 20.

Court's Intervention

According to sources, the likelihood of receiving permission for the march appears low, as it coincides with the first day of the Parliament's monsoon session. Earlier this week, the Delhi High Court instructed officials to conduct daily clinical assessments of Wangchuk's health, asserting that "the life of any citizen is precious," and urged the central government to ensure necessary medical assistance if required.
