Chandrashekhar Azad Demands Accountability from Delhi Police Over Student Protests

Chandrashekhar Azad, the president of the Azad Samaj Party-Kanshiram, has called for accountability from the Delhi Police regarding their actions during recent student protests. He emphasized the need for clarity on police orders and actions, especially in light of past incidents involving 'kar sevaks' in Uttar Pradesh. Azad's statements come as opposition parties increase pressure on the government for answers. Malwinder Singh Kang from the Aam Aadmi Party also supported the demand for accountability, questioning the government's handling of donations for the Ram Janmabhoomi temple. This situation highlights ongoing concerns about police conduct and governmental transparency.

Accountability Demanded for Police Actions

Chandrashekhar Azad, the president of the Azad Samaj Party-Kanshiram and a Member of Parliament, has called for accountability regarding the alleged police actions against student protesters in Delhi. Speaking on Thursday, he emphasized that the Delhi Police, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs led by Amit Shah, must answer for their use of force. In an interview, Azad stated that accountability is essential in all cases, noting that there is no doubt that the Delhi Police falls under the central government's jurisdiction. His remarks come amid increasing pressure from opposition parties regarding the police's actions during the student protests at Jantar Mantar on July 20.

Concerns Over Previous Incidents

Azad also referenced allegations of gunfire against 'kar sevaks' in Uttar Pradesh, asserting that accountability should be established in both instances. He pointed out that it is often claimed that the order to fire on 'kar sevaks' was given by a minister at that time. He questioned the validity of stating that the current Home Minister did not issue such an order, while also challenging the narrative that the previous minister was responsible for the gunfire.

He further insisted that it must be clarified under whose orders the shots and tear gas were deployed, suggesting that this could have escalated into a significant incident. He stressed that these matters should not be overlooked and that accountability is crucial.

Support from Other Political Figures

Malwinder Singh Kang, another MP from the Aam Aadmi Party, echoed the call for accountability, highlighting that the Delhi Police operates directly under the Ministry of Home Affairs. He stated that accountability is necessary because of this direct oversight, which is why they are demanding answers.

Kang also raised questions regarding the alleged embezzlement of donations for the Ram Janmabhoomi temple, demanding clarity from the government on this issue. He remarked that the government must be held accountable for the mishandling of donations and the sentiments of millions of people.
