Chandrababu Naidu Confident of NDA Support in Tamil Nadu Elections
Naidu Highlights NDA's Growing Momentum
On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP leader N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed his belief in the rising support for the NDA in Tamil Nadu, asserting that voters will back the BJP-AIADMK alliance in the upcoming assembly elections. Speaking to reporters on the final day of campaigning, Naidu attributed this growing support to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated, 'There is a wave of NDA support. I am fully confident. The people trust the Prime Minister's leadership, and this is evident everywhere.'
Alliance Strength and Reforms
Elaborating on the coalition, Naidu described it as a strong combination of AIADMK, BJP, and their allied parties. He emphasized, 'This is the NDA... I am confident that people will vote for the NDA this time. A double-engine government is essential for progress.' The TDP chief robustly defended the proposed delimitation and women's reservation, questioning the opposition from Congress and DMK. He remarked, 'When we ask why you oppose delimitation, there are no answers. Protesting without justification is meaningless. There is no injustice to any state. Women are being accommodated.'
Historic Empowerment and Legislative Challenges
Naidu referred to this reform as historic, stating, 'This is a significant empowerment. It represents a major reform of this decade or perhaps this century. There will be a 50% increase in seats across all states, along with 33% reservation for women. What is wrong with this? Why the opposition?' His comments came shortly after the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill failed to secure the necessary two-thirds majority in Parliament, halting reforms related to delimitation. Previously, Naidu criticized Rahul Gandhi and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for claiming that the bill's failure was a 'victory' and accused them of delaying women's reservation.
Focus on Inclusive Development
Emphasizing the need for inclusive development, Naidu stated that everyone must be included in the process. 'This is the essence of reservation and delimitation. Politics should be meaningful—for development and progress.' Voting in Tamil Nadu will take place in a single phase on April 23, with counting scheduled for May 4. The main contest is between the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance and the NDA led by AIADMK.
