The Horrific Crimes of Monu

A man has committed heinous acts that defy humanity, having assaulted and murdered four women. This individual, known as the serial killer Monu, has left a trail of horror. Let's delve into the details of his atrocious deeds.

The story begins in 2010 when Neha Ahlawat, a 21-year-old MBA student, left her home in Sector 38 West on July 30 around 6 PM for an English speaking class. Tragically, she never returned. That same night, amidst heavy rain, her semi-nude, bloodied body was discovered in bushes near a taxi stand. Signs of violence were evident, and it was later confirmed that she had been raped. Initially, the case yielded no leads and was closed in 2020 as unsolved. However, the DNA evidence would eventually lead police to the truth 15 years later.

Pattern of Attacks
During this time, two more similar incidents occurred in the forested areas of Chandigarh. Each time, women were targeted when alone, particularly during the rainy season. The assailant would lure them to secluded spots, attack, strangle, and dispose of their bodies in bushes. In several cases, signs of rape were also found post-mortem. DNA evidence from all three cases pointed to the same perpetrator.

Identification Through DNA
Monu's pattern of crime involved not just one but four women, all attacked in a similar manner. His first known assault occurred in 2008 when he was just 20 years old, targeting a girl in Himachal Pradesh's Chamba region. He killed her by striking her head with a sharp stone. Although arrested, he was acquitted due to lack of solid evidence during the trial. A few months later, in 2010, he assaulted and murdered the MBA student in a similar fashion. In 2022, he struck again in the Maloya forest, attacking a married woman. In February 2024, he attempted to assault a 65-year-old woman, and DNA found on her clothing matched his.

Doctors conducted DNA tests comparing Monu's samples with those of the deceased married woman. On May 6, 2024, when Monu returned, police apprehended him. Initially, he denied all allegations, but upon being informed that his DNA matched all three cases, he confessed to the murders. His mobile phone's location tracking revealed he was in the vicinity of where the body of the elderly woman was found.
