This achievement marks India's first medal at the current Games and the second overall, following Jhandu Kumar's bronze in para powerlifting.

Outstanding Performance by Rishikanta

Rishikanta concluded the event with a total lift of 264kg, comprising 121kg in the snatch and 143kg in the clean and jerk. The gold medal was claimed by Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Kasdan, who set a Commonwealth Games record with a total of 273kg (121kg snatch + 152kg clean and jerk). Kenya's Joshua Mboya secured the bronze with a total of 260kg (115kg + 145kg), as reported by ESPN.

Record in Snatch

The Indian athlete began strongly in the snatch, successfully lifting 116kg and then 119kg. He achieved a personal best by lifting 121kg, breaking the Commonwealth Games snatch record. Kasdan matched this effort shortly after, resulting in both lifters being tied at the top after the snatch round.

Intense Clean and Jerk Competition

In the clean and jerk segment, Rishikanta opened with a successful lift of 143kg, temporarily taking the overall lead with a total of 264kg. Kasdan responded by lifting 145kg and then 149kg, surpassing Rishikanta with a total of 270kg. In a bid to regain the lead, Rishikanta attempted 151kg on his final lift but was unable to complete the jerk, concluding his pursuit for gold. Kasdan finished with a final lift of 152kg, solidifying his Games record total of 273kg.

Despite narrowly missing out on the gold medal, Rishikanta's performance was commendable, contributing to India's medal tally at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and setting a new record in the snatch.
