On Thursday, a coordinated effort by the Municipal Council and local law enforcement initiated a comprehensive campaign targeting illegal street vendors in Chamba. The operation, spearheaded by Executive Officer Rakhi, Municipal Council President Neelam Nayyar, member Nitika, and the Station House Officer, led to the confiscation of merchandise from numerous vendors.



  • Approximately 30 unauthorized stalls were dismantled during the extensive operation.


  • Several permanent encroachments were removed, causing alarm among vendors and shopkeepers.


  • Shopkeepers received warnings that displaying goods outside their premises would result in fines and confiscation in the future.



Officials indicated that the confiscated items would only be returned after substantial penalties were imposed. This enforcement action follows numerous complaints regarding shopkeepers extending their displays onto roadways, which obstructed pedestrian traffic and created challenges for drivers.


Historic locations, primary markets, and busy intersections had been encroached upon, with shopkeepers displaying their products several feet into the streets. The surge in tourists from other states has exacerbated congestion in the town, necessitating prompt intervention.


The team urged vendors and shopkeepers to strictly adhere to designated operating areas, cautioning that further infractions would lead to stringent legal repercussions.
