Mukesh Repswal, the Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer for Panchayat, has expressed sincere appreciation to the voters, media personnel, officials, employees, police, and Home Guard members in Chamba district for their role in facilitating the peaceful and successful execution of the Panchayati Raj Institutions General Elections 2026.
During a press conference held at Bachat Bhawan, he noted that the elections, which took place on May 26, 28, and 30, were carried out smoothly and without incident. The results were announced on May 31 after the counting process, with law and order maintained throughout the election period.
Repswal highlighted that approximately 3,800 staff members and 700 police/security personnel were instrumental in ensuring the elections proceeded without any issues. The district achieved an impressive 81.01% voter turnout, with 77.03% of men and 84.39% of women participating. The Tissa block saw the highest turnout at around 85%, while Bharmaur block recorded the lowest at approximately 74%.
In total, 3,30,882 voters cast their votes, comprising 1,60,714 men and 1,70,108 women. Additionally, 400 ward members, 7 vice-pradhans, 4 panchayat pradhans, and 1 panchayat samiti member were elected unopposed. He congratulated the Karwal Gram Panchayat of Salooni block for their unanimous election and announced a grant of ₹25 lakh for the panchayat.
Overall, 7,807 candidates participated in the elections, leading to the selection of 18 Zila Parishad members, 135 Panchayat Samiti members, 319 Panchayat Pradhans, 319 Vice-Pradhans, and 1,793 Ward Members.
Repswal extended his best wishes to all newly elected officials, expressing confidence in their commitment to rural development, public welfare, and addressing local challenges, which will be crucial for the comprehensive advancement of Panchayats.
