Ongoing Protests Over NEET Exam Irregularities
In light of the ongoing protests regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET examination, central ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh are expected to meet with representatives from the Cockroach People’s Party (CJP). The central government is set to engage in another round of discussions with them on Wednesday. This meeting comes just two days after CJP representatives had a dialogue with Nadda and submitted a charter of demands.
CJP leader Sourav Das stated that while they are prepared for discussions, they will not meet the ministers at their offices or residences. Instead, they propose to hold the talks either at Jantar Mantar or another neutral location. Das mentioned, “They have called us. We will not go to their office or home. We have been ready for talks since day one. They contacted us again two days ago. We understand they are ministers, so security might be a concern. We can meet at the Constitution Club of India.”
On Wednesday, the CJP expanded its list of demands. Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka indicated that they now seek to ensure that no FIRs or legal actions are taken against those who participated in the protest on July 20.
Ranka outlined four key demands from the movement: the release of Sonam Wangchuk, the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, a compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of those who committed suicide, and the withdrawal of any legal actions against participants in the peaceful protest on July 20. Meanwhile, following the government's agreement to discuss the alleged NEET paper leak in the Lok Sabha, Minister Pradhan met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
After the government indicated its willingness to discuss the issue in the house, Pradhan met with Birla. The center has also requested the Speaker to convene an all-party meeting to determine the rules, date, and duration for the debate. These developments come at a time when protests regarding alleged irregularities in the examination continue both inside and outside Parliament, with the opposition demanding Pradhan's resignation and a comprehensive discussion on the matter.
