Central Education Minister Reviews Security Measures for NEET-UG Re-Examination
High-Level Meeting on NEET-UG Security Preparations
The Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, chaired a high-level review meeting with central security and intelligence agencies to assess security arrangements for the upcoming NEET-UG re-examination. He emphasized the necessity for heightened vigilance and robust security measures to ensure the examination is conducted safely, fairly, and smoothly. Senior officials from the Ministry of Education and the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA) were also present during this meeting. A comprehensive review of the examination preparations was conducted, focusing on identifying potential vulnerabilities and ensuring timely preventive and corrective actions.
Concerns Over Misinformation in Competitive Exams
In a separate meeting with representatives from major social media platforms like Meta, Google, and Telegram, officials expressed concerns regarding the rising spread of misinformation related to competitive exams, particularly through Telegram channels and anonymous online groups. It was noted that many of these channels become highly active before major examinations, disseminating false claims of paper leaks, clickbait content, and unverified information, which creates panic, anxiety, and confusion among students and parents.
Action Against Misinformation Networks
It was also observed that numerous links redirect users to automated bots and fake groups aimed at further spreading misinformation. According to intelligence reports, several suspicious channels are allegedly operated through a limited number of phone numbers, indicating organized and coordinated activities behind misinformation campaigns. Taking this issue seriously, Dharmendra Pradhan instructed officials to take strict action against such networks. He called for the identification, blocking, and shutting down of channels that spread false information, propaganda, and panic before the examination.
Collaboration with Social Media Platforms
The minister stressed the importance of social media platforms collaborating with the Ministry of Education, the National Testing Authority (NTA), and law enforcement agencies to promptly curb misinformation and ensure the integrity of the examination process. Reiterating the government's commitment, he stated that protecting students from misleading information and maintaining public trust in the examination system is of utmost priority.
