Boko, April 21: The vibrant Suwari festival celebrated its 114th edition in Boko on Monday, showcasing Assam's rich traditions through lively rituals, colorful pageantry, and a diverse crowd from various communities.

The festival grounds were filled with the sounds of traditional dhol music and the energy of dance, as thousands gathered to enjoy a day that blended cultural heritage with sporting events.

The festivities kicked off with an impressive mass Bihu performance featuring 500 drummers and dancers, setting a festive tone for the day steeped in tradition.

Popular events included thrilling elephant races, exciting horse sprints, and competitive footraces for children, all of which captivated the audience.

Other traditional competitions such as the 100-meter dash, tug-of-war, and unique clay bucket races for women contributed to the festive atmosphere.

Beyond the sports, the festival highlighted Assam's diverse cultural heritage, with various communities showcasing their unique dances and songs.

Performances included traditional styles from the Rabha, Boro, and Garo communities, as well as Koch-Rajbanshi, Nepali, and Bengali dances.

Local art forms like Parobah, Hana-ghora, Jari-ghora, and devotional Ghosha Naam were also prominently featured, enriching the cultural experience.

Elders from different communities led traditional dances, transforming the festival grounds into a vibrant display of folk culture.

Rituals played a significant role throughout the day, with priests from local temples conducting ceremonies to honor the sacred Gosai, Nisan, and Sarai.

As evening fell, attendees participated in a collective prayer, seeking blessings for protection and a fruitful agricultural season.

The event was officially opened with a flag hoisting ceremony led by Dipak Kumar, president of the Boko Regional Suwari Festival Committee.

The gathering included notable figures such as former MLA Jyotiprasad Das, Sonaram Rabha, and other distinguished guests from various sectors.
