Celebrating Sachin Tendulkar: The God of Cricket Turns 49
A Legendary Cricketer's Birthday
Cricket has seen numerous exceptional batsmen throughout its history, but none have achieved the iconic status of Sachin Tendulkar, often referred to as the 'God of Cricket.' His unparalleled records and immense fan following set him apart from others.
Tendulkar was a pivotal player for the Indian cricket team, inspiring his teammates and often leading them out of challenging situations. Interestingly, he once played against India while representing Pakistan.
Sachin's Birthday Celebration
Today, April 24, marks Sachin Tendulkar's birthday as he turns 49 years old. Born in Mumbai on April 24, 1973, he began his cricketing journey at the tender age of 16, showcasing his potential to become a legendary batsman from a young age.
He holds the remarkable record of scoring 100 international centuries, a feat that remains unmatched. Over a career spanning 24 years, he participated in 664 international matches, amassing over 34,000 runs. In addition to his batting prowess, he also excelled in bowling, taking 201 wickets.
The Love Story of Sachin and Anjali
Sachin Tendulkar's love story with his wife Anjali is equally captivating. Their first encounter took place in 1990 when Sachin was returning from an overseas tour, and Anjali was at the airport to pick up her mother. It was love at first sight for both.
Anjali, a doctor by profession, is the daughter of renowned businessman Ashok Mehta. After their initial meeting, they connected through a mutual friend and eventually tied the knot five years later in 1995. Anjali is six years older than Sachin, and the couple has two children, Sara and Arjun.
Sachin's Unique Experience Playing for Pakistan
In 1987, a young Sachin, then just 13 years old, had a unique experience that he recounted in his autobiography 'Playing It My Way.' At that time, he had not yet played any international matches. A series of matches between India and Pakistan were scheduled, including a 40-over exhibition match.
During the match, Pakistani players Abdul Qadir and Javed Miandad stepped out for lunch, leading to Sachin being called in as a substitute fielder for Pakistan. He even sprinted to catch a ball from Kapil Dev, although he missed it. India won that match, and Sachin humorously noted that the then-Pakistani captain Imran Khan likely wouldn't remember this incident.
