Celebrating Navy Day: Honoring the Indian Navy's Role in National Security

On Navy Day 2025, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the Indian Navy for its essential role in safeguarding maritime interests and promoting self-reliance. The celebrations included tributes from Union Home Minister Amit Shah and a showcase of naval capabilities off the coast of Kerala. The event highlighted the Navy's readiness and commitment to national security, with significant participation from various naval assets. Prime Minister Modi also shared his memorable Diwali experience with naval personnel aboard INS Vikrant. This year's observance underscores the Navy's importance in achieving a 'Viksit Bharat'.
 

Navy Day Celebrations and Significance


New Delhi, December 4: On Thursday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised the Indian Navy for its crucial role in protecting the nation's maritime interests and its dedication to self-reliance, emphasizing its significance in realizing the vision of a 'Viksit Bharat'.


Every year on December 4, Navy Day is celebrated to honor the achievements of the Indian Navy and its contributions to the security of the nation. This date also commemorates the Navy's triumph during the 1971 war, particularly under Operation Trident, when Indian forces successfully sank four Pakistani ships, including PNS Khaibar, delivering a significant blow to the adversary.


In a message shared on X, the Defence Minister stated, "On Navy Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all personnel and their families in the Indian Navy. As the predominant naval power in the Indian Ocean, the Navy steadfastly protects India's maritime interests with courage, vigilance, and a commitment to self-reliance, steering the nation towards 'Viksit Bharat'."


He expressed his wishes for the Navy's continued success, adding, "The exemplary professionalism and dedication demonstrated by our naval forces over the past year instill great confidence that the Indian Navy is prepared to defend and promote our national maritime interests."


Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his best wishes to the Navy personnel on this occasion.


"Warm greetings to the brave warriors of the Indian Navy on Navy Day 2025. The Indian Navy stands as a pillar of our pride, safeguarding the nation from threats with unmatched bravery and ensuring our growth through maritime routes. The legacy of patriotism they have created through their ultimate sacrifices will inspire future generations of warriors," HM Shah posted on X.


He further paid tribute to the Navy personnel who sacrificed their lives for the country.


Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reflected on the memorable Diwali he celebrated this year with naval personnel aboard the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant.


In a display of its growing maritime capabilities, the Indian Navy showcased its operational readiness off the coast of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on Wednesday.


The event featured the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and the frontline frigate Udaygiri, highlighting the Navy's multi-domain combat capabilities.


President Droupadi Murmu, serving as the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, observed the demonstration from Shangumugham Beach as part of the Navy Day festivities.


A total of 19 major warships, including INS Vikrant, a submarine, four fast intervention vessels, and 32 aircraft, including fighter jets, surveillance planes, and helicopters, participated in the event, showcasing the Navy's expanding operational reach and preparedness.
