Grand Finale of National Maritime Day Celebrations
Mumbai: The 63rd National Maritime Day Celebrations reached their pinnacle recently at the Bharat Ratnam Auditorium, organized by the National Maritime Day Celebrations (Central) Committee. This significant event attracted notable figures from the maritime industry, including leaders, academics, and cadets from various maritime institutions.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of Chief Guest Nitesh Narayan Rane, the Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Fisheries & Ports Development for Maharashtra, alongside Guest of Honour Deepak Shetty.
Distinguished guests, including Sarbananda Sonowal and senior officials from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, delivered addresses and video messages during the event. The celebration commenced with the Chief Guest's arrival, followed by a ceremonial Guard of Honour, the National Anthem, and the traditional lighting of the lamp. The program featured welcome speeches and keynote addresses centered on the theme “Maritime India – Empowering Progress,” along with the presentation of the prestigious Sagar Samman Awards, which honor excellence in the maritime field.
Cadets from the Indian Maritime University – Mumbai Port Campus (IMU-MPC) played an active role in the event, contributing to both the ceremonial proceedings and cultural performances. A standout moment was a classical dance by cadet Sananda Nath, which highlighted the rich cultural heritage and talent of the students. The cadets also participated in formal interactions and recognition ceremonies throughout the event.
The program included various cultural performances, the distribution of recognition certificates, and highlights from the 63rd Merchant Navy Week celebrations. The event concluded with the presentation of mementos to dignitaries, a vote of thanks, and the National Anthem, followed by a dinner.
During the ceremony, cadets were honored in the presence of prominent maritime dignitaries, including Shri Shyam Jaganath, IAS, DGS. Their participation underscored the professionalism, cultural pride, and active engagement that IMU-MPC promotes among its students.
