New Delhi, September 4: On the auspicious occasion of Janmashtami, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his heartfelt wishes to the citizens of India, expressing hope that this sacred festival would usher in positive energy, strength, and prosperity for everyone.

He emphasized that this significant day, dedicated to the worship of Lord Krishna, should motivate individuals and rejuvenate their spirits.

In a message shared on social media platform 'X', PM Modi stated, "Wishing everyone a joyous Janmashtami. The divine teachings of Lord Shri Krishna provide deep inspiration for selfless actions that have guided humanity throughout time. My sincere wish is that this holy occasion brings positive energy and strength into every life. Jai Shri Krishna."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also shared his greetings, saying, "Warm wishes to all citizens on the sacred festival of ‘Shri Krishna Janmashtami’. May Lord Shri Krishna, who embodies righteousness and public welfare, bless everyone abundantly. Jai Shri Krishna."

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his congratulations, stating, "I offer my heartfelt wishes to all residents on the sacred day of Lord Vasudeva Shri Krishna Ji's birth, the eternal beacon of devotion and righteousness—'Shri Krishna Janmashtami.' May the infinite grace of Lord Shri Krishna, who loves his devotees, instill ideals of love, compassion, and selfless action in our lives, and may happiness and peace prevail across the universe—this is my prayer. Jai Shri Krishna."

Janmashtami, also referred to as Gokulashtami, is being celebrated today. This festival commemorates the birth of Lord Krishna, who is traditionally believed to have been born at midnight in Mathura. Devotees engage in fasting, prayers, singing bhajans, visiting temples, and celebrating at midnight.

The festival is particularly significant in Mathura and Vrindavan, with celebrations taking place in homes and temples nationwide. Devotees adorn Krishna idols, prepare festive dishes, and partake in Janmashtami rituals. The Dahi Handi celebrations are also a traditional highlight of this festival, with the 2026 Dahi Handi event scheduled for September 5.
