Celebrating Fitness: 91st Fit India Sundays on Cycle Highlights Journalists' Role

The 91st edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle brought together over 1,000 participants at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, celebrating the vital role of journalists in promoting fitness. The event featured various activities, including yoga and Zumba, and emphasized the importance of a healthy lifestyle. With a special theme dedicated to journalists, the initiative aimed to recognize their contributions to raising awareness about fitness. Notable guests included former cricketer Parvinder Awana and Fit India Ambassador Shivam Gahlot, who encouraged youth to adopt healthy habits. This nationwide initiative continues to inspire communities to engage in fitness activities.
 

Fit India Sundays on Cycle Event

The 91st Fit India Sundays on Cycle event took place at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, attracting over 1,000 participants. This edition was themed 'A Ride for the Stories That Matter,' honoring the contributions of journalists.


The initiative aimed to acknowledge the essential role journalists play in disseminating significant stories and raising awareness about societal issues. It also encouraged them to adopt a healthier lifestyle. According to a press release from the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the media's involvement has been crucial in popularizing the Fit India movement.


Fitness Activities Kick Off

The fitness activities commenced early Sunday at 5:30 AM, with participants engaging in various exercises such as yoga, Zumba, and rope skipping.


Acknowledging Journalists' Contributions

Mayank Shrivastava, Deputy Director General of SAI, emphasized the importance of journalists in transforming the Fit India initiative from a small event into a widespread movement. He stated, 'This special edition is our way of recognizing the journalists who have significantly contributed to spreading the message of fitness.'


Event Highlights and Nasha Mukti Pledge

The event began with the recognition of notable guests, including journalists from prominent media outlets, former cricketer Parvinder Awana, and Fit India Ambassador Shivam Gahlot. Participants also took the Nasha Mukti pledge, committing to a healthy, substance-free lifestyle, before embarking on a 5-kilometer cycling journey around India Gate.


Cricketer Awana on Fitness and Asian Games

Parvinder Awana, who previously participated in Fit India Sundays on Cycle, remarked on the campaign's success in promoting fitness among the youth. He expressed optimism for Indian athletes in the upcoming Asian Games 2026, wishing them success in securing gold medals.


Fit India Ambassador's Advice to Youth

Shivam Gahlot, a fitness expert and Fit India Ambassador, encouraged young people to avoid steroids and unnecessary supplements. He highlighted the importance of consistency in fitness and a balanced diet, urging the youth to focus on regular exercise and healthy eating habits.


Engaging Fitness Activities

The event featured a game zone with board games like carrom and chess, along with various sporting activities such as badminton, tug of war, and an obstacle race, keeping participants engaged and active throughout the morning.


Nationwide Initiative

Fit India Sundays on Cycle is organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) in partnership with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), Raahgiri Foundation, and MY Bharat. This cycling initiative is conducted across all States and Union Territories, including SAI Regional Centres and Khelo India Centres, with over 6,000 NAMO Fit India Clubs participating weekly.
