Bijni, Jan 11: The three-day 65th Bodo Sahitya Sabha wrapped up on Sunday at the Thengphakhri fields in Borlaugao, marking a significant event for the Bodo community's literary and cultural expression.

The final day commenced with a lively cultural procession that showcased the region's rich heritage.

Inaugurated by Prashant Boro, Vice President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, the procession featured performances from various Bodo cultural groups, Bihu and Mising teams, along with cultural representatives from Bhutan, attracting large audiences.

The open session later in the day saw attendance from notable figures, including Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Chief Hagrama Mohilary, and Minister U G Brahma.

Also present were MP Jayanta Basumatary, ABSU president Dipen Boro, and leaders from multiple political and social organizations.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was expected to join the open session but was unable to attend due to his commitment to the foundation laying ceremony of the Integrated Judicial Complex in North Guwahati.

During the open session, Mallabaruah expressed his pleasure in representing the Chief Minister, emphasizing the Sabha's vital role in the preservation and promotion of Bodo language, literature, and culture. He wished the organization continued success in the future.

BTC Chief Mohilary condemned a recent alleged rape incident in Kokrajhar, stating, “I have learned about the Kokrajhar incident. While every society has its bad elements, we should not blame an entire community for the actions of a few. Authorities must identify the perpetrators and ensure they face strict consequences.”

However, the concluding day was overshadowed by concerns stemming from a disruptive incident that occurred late Saturday night during a representative meeting. Organizers reported that a group of individuals, allegedly intoxicated, entered the venue, causing chaos, vandalizing property, and forcibly taking microphones, which led to the postponement of the meeting.

ABSU president Boro reported that approximately 100–150 individuals surrounded the venue around 1 am, creating disorder, assaulting attendees, and demanding the meeting's cancellation. He condemned such behavior, stating it was unacceptable.

Despite the earlier disruptions, organizers confirmed that the overall session concluded on a positive note, reaffirming the Bodo Sahitya Sabha's enduring contribution to the cultural, literary, and social advancement of the Bodo community.
