A Grand Celebration in Nalbari

Nalbari, Mar 1: The Shyamrai Naamghar in Kalag resonated with two centuries of devotion as the bicentenary Doul Mahotsav kicked off on Sunday.

This six-day festival is dedicated to celebrating 200 years of the Naamghar's rich spiritual and cultural heritage.

On the inaugural day, hundreds of devotees gathered, filling the venue with an atmosphere of faith and celebration.

"Today is a truly blessed occasion. We are overwhelmed to see such a large turnout for this event. I hope everything goes smoothly," expressed Lakshmi Kalita, chairperson of the Naamghar committee.

The festivities commenced with the ceremonial raising of 200 flags, symbolizing the Naamghar's two-century journey. The morning was filled with spiritual activities, culminating in a grand religious procession organized by the committee.

This procession was a vibrant display featuring elephants, traditional bullock carts, and colorful representations of Assam's rich cultural tapestry.

Traditional Bhelaghar structures, Bagurumba dance performances, and tableaux showcasing figures like Hanuman and Lord Krishna captivated both devotees and visitors alike.

“As we celebrate 200 years, we have planned numerous events. The first was a Swachh Abhiyan, followed by the flag-hoisting ceremony, and now the cultural rally,” stated Mintu Patowary, editor of the Naamghar committee.

The second day will host a religious gathering, while the third day will feature a nagara naam performance. Evening cultural programs are scheduled from the third to the sixth day.

“Alongside the religious and cultural activities, we have arranged a book fair, a trade fair, and various stalls. I encourage everyone to join us for the celebrations,” Patowary added.

As Kalag commemorates two centuries of devotion and community spirit, the Doul Mahotsav emerges as more than just a religious event; it is a celebration of Assam's enduring cultural legacy, intertwining faith, festivity, and collective memory into a significant occasion.
