Investigation into Tragic Rally Incident

Chennai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken possession of the campaign vehicle used by actor and politician Vijay as part of its inquiry into a tragic stampede that occurred during his public meeting in Karur on September 27 of the previous year, resulting in 41 fatalities and numerous injuries.

Officials have stated that the bus, which transported Vijay from Panaiyur to Karur for the rally, is currently under investigation to assess travel logs, timings, and adherence to the necessary permissions for the event.

The vehicle's driver is also being interrogated to confirm details regarding the schedule and crowd dynamics on the day of the rally.

The incident reportedly unfolded amidst overwhelming crowds and alleged failures in crowd management at the venue where Vijay spoke to his supporters.

In response to the need for an unbiased investigation, the case was handed over to the CBI, which has ramped up its efforts by questioning political figures and district officials linked to the event.

On November 25, senior members of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) were summoned to the CBI's office in New Delhi. Those interrogated included General Secretary Bussy Anand, Election Campaign Management General Secretary Adhav Arjun, and Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar.

Additionally, TVK Karur West District Secretary K.P. Mathiyazhagan and M.C. Paunraj were also questioned.

Investigators have indicated that the leaders were asked about various aspects, including the planning of the rally, permissions secured, crowd estimates, security measures, and logistical arrangements.

On December 4, Karur District Collector Thangavelam was called in for questioning that lasted over two hours, focusing on administrative approvals, inter-departmental coordination, and the response strategies implemented during the rally.

As the investigation progresses, the CBI has formally summoned Vijay to appear at their headquarters in New Delhi on January 12.

Sources reveal that the questioning will center on his role as the main speaker, the planning and execution of the event, and the decisions made by the organizing committee regarding crowd management.

The investigation seeks to establish accountability for the failures that led to this tragic political rally incident.

Officials have indicated that further questioning of key witnesses and examination of documentary evidence will continue in the days ahead.
