CBI Arrests IPS Officer in Bribery Case Linked to Counterfeit Drug Investigation

New Delhi, July 1: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Deepak Gahlawat, an IPS officer from the 2012 batch of the Haryana cadre, who is currently serving with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) in Delhi, in connection with a bribery scandal.
The CBI initiated the case on June 8 against a Delhi Police Inspector and two private individuals.
Investigations revealed that Gahlawat allegedly solicited illegal payments, asserting he could leverage his influence to assist certain private individuals involved in ongoing CBI investigations concerning counterfeit drug sales in Puducherry.
Previously, the CBI had arrested the implicated Delhi Police Inspector along with six other private individuals, recovering around Rs 25 lakh in trap money and seizing approximately Rs 90 lakh in cash, along with various incriminating documents.
Additionally, the CBI executed searches at several locations associated with the IPS officer, confiscating numerous digital devices, hard drives, and documents pertinent to the investigation.
Ongoing investigations are expected to yield further information.
In a separate anti-corruption initiative, the CBI arrested a manager from the Punjab National Bank's Bhadrauli branch in Agra's Barhan area on June 26 for alleged bribery.
The case was initiated on June 25 after a complaint from a private company employee, who claimed the bank manager demanded Rs 7,000 per loan file to expedite the processing of 19 solar panel loan applications. Following negotiations, the manager reportedly agreed to accept a total bribe of Rs 52,000 for the sanctioned loan files.
Earlier, on June 14, a senior section engineer from the Northeast Frontier Railway in Silchar, Assam, was also arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant.
