Silchar, April 18: In response to the escalating violence in Manipur, a candlelight rally took place in Lakhipur, Cachar district, on Friday. This event saw participation from various local groups and community members who voiced their strong disapproval of the recent civilian casualties.
The rally was organized collaboratively by the Lakhipur Khuman Club Cachar, Meira Paibi, and Ebudhou Thounanglup Lakhipur.
Numerous participants, including children, gathered, holding candles and placards to show their support for the victims affected by the ongoing turmoil in the neighboring state.
During the event, the organizers brought attention to a tragic incident that reportedly occurred on April 7 in Bishnupur district, Manipur, near Moirang.
This attack resulted in the deaths of two young children: a five-year-old boy and a five-month-old girl. Their mother was severely injured and required hospitalization.
Demonstrators expressed profound worry regarding the safety of civilians and the deteriorating law and order situation in the affected regions.
A significant concern raised by the participants was the apparent inadequacy of security measures. One protester questioned, “How could such a heinous attack happen with security force camps nearby?”
The protesters called on authorities to investigate potential oversights and ensure accountability in safeguarding vulnerable populations.
With messages advocating for peace, justice, and enhanced intervention, the protesters demanded prompt and effective action from both state and central governments.
They stressed the critical need to restore stability in Manipur and avert further loss of innocent lives.
