Union Minister Clarifies Sanchar Saathi App Usage

New Delhi: On Tuesday, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that users have the option to delete the Sanchar Saathi app, a government initiative aimed at reporting fraud, which is intended to be pre-installed on all mobile devices.

Scindia informed the media that individuals can choose whether to retain or remove the Sanchar Saathi app from their devices.

The Department of Telecom has mandated that all manufacturers and importers of mobile phones ensure the app is pre-installed on new devices and made available through software updates for existing phones.

As per the directive issued on November 28, all mobile phones produced or imported in India will be required to have the app installed within 90 days from the order's date.

Mobile phone manufacturers must report their compliance to the Department of Telecom within 120 days.

Scindia emphasized that while users can delete the app if they wish, many people may not be aware of its existence, which is designed to safeguard them against fraud and theft.

The Minister for Communications further stated that it is crucial to ensure that the app reaches everyone. Users can choose to delete it, not register it, or keep it active by registering.
