Call for Action on Violence Against Hindus in Bangladesh

Urgent Appeal for Minority Protection

In response to reports of violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh, Acharya Dhirendra Shastri from the Bageshwar Dham government has urged the Indian central government to take decisive measures to ensure the safety of minorities in the neighboring country. Shastri emphasized that failure to act could jeopardize the identity of Hindus in Bangladesh. His remarks were made in light of the recent murders of Amrit Mandal and Dipu Chandra Das amid ongoing violence in the region.

Concerns Over Hindu Identity

Speaking to a news agency, Shastri expressed his dismay, stating that it has become imperative for the Indian government to implement significant steps for the protection of Hindus in Bangladesh. He warned that without intervention, the identity of Hindus could be at risk. Furthermore, he suggested that if the Hindu minority in Bangladesh is not safe, they should be granted refuge in India. He stressed that failing to assist them now would undermine the essence of Hindu unity, asserting that the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh is crucial.

Recent Incidents of Violence

Earlier this week, reports indicated that a Hindu youth named Amrit Mandal was brutally killed in the Hosendanga village of the Kalimohor union in the Pangsha sub-district, allegedly over extortion charges. Police arrived at the scene after receiving information and found Mandal in critical condition. His murder followed the brutal killing and burning of another Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, in the Mymensingh district just days prior.

Details of the Attacks

Dipu Chandra Das, who worked in a textile factory, was reportedly beaten to death by a mob over allegations of blasphemy, with his body later hung and set on fire on December 18. According to the Daily Star, Abdullah Al Mamun, the additional police superintendent of Mymensingh, revealed that a factory official informed the Bhairab police that a group of workers had attacked Dipu inside the factory, accusing him of making derogatory comments about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in a Facebook post.
