Calcutta High Court's Upcoming Decision

The Calcutta High Court is set to announce its final ruling regarding the cancellation of 32,000 teacher appointments. Previously, a single bench led by Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay had ordered the annulment of primary teacher appointments (TET) in 2023. The case revolves around alleged irregularities in the West Bengal TET appointments.

The hearing concerning these 32,000 teachers took place on November 12, presided over by a division bench comprising Justices Tapobrata Chakraborty and Ritabrata Kumar. The court is expected to deliver its decision on the TET appointment matter today at 2 PM.

The TET was conducted in 2014, with around 1.25 lakh candidates passing the examination. The recruitment process commenced in 2016, resulting in 42,949 candidates being appointed. However, it has been alleged that 32,000 of these appointments were made without proper interviews and involved untrained individuals, among other irregularities.
