Court Issues Arrest Warrant

Kolkata: On Monday, the Calcutta High Court mandated the immediate arrest of Abishek Porel, the wicketkeeper-batsman for Delhi Capitals. Another individual involved in the same case has also been ordered to be arrested.

Allegations Filed by Medical Student

The court's decision follows a complaint lodged by a medical student who has made grave accusations against Porel, including rape, sexual assault under the pretense of marriage, and intimidation. The Bengal police initially received the complaint back in June.

Details of the Complaint

The woman, accompanied by her mother, formally filed the complaint last Tuesday at the Mogra police station located in Hooghly district. In her statement, she revealed that she and Porel had been in a relationship for three years. However, she claims that after some disagreements arose last year, the cricketer began to distance himself from her.

She alleges that Porel had promised to marry her but is now retracting that promise. The student is seeking legal action against him for engaging in sexual relations based on false promises, assault, and criminal intimidation.

Porel's Response to the Allegations

Porel has denied all allegations, labeling them as unfounded. Currently in Bengaluru, he mentioned that the police have yet to reach out to him regarding the case.

In a statement to the media, he remarked, "I am performing well now, so many things are surfacing." The 23-year-old cricketer indicated that he would provide a comprehensive response once the police conclude their preliminary investigation.

Porel's Cricketing Career

A left-handed batsman, Porel has been part of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League since 2023. In the previous season, he accumulated 108 runs over four innings. He made his first-class debut for Bengal during the 2021-22 season and has since participated in 32 first-class matches and 23 List A matches.
