Calcutta High Court Delays Hearing on TMC's Petition Amid ED Investigation
TMC's Legal Battle with ED
On Wednesday, Kalyan Banerjee, a senior advocate and TMC MP, announced that the Calcutta High Court has postponed the hearing related to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and petitions filed by the TMC. This decision comes after a recent raid at the I-PAC premises, pending the resolution of a special leave petition in the Supreme Court. Banerjee, representing TMC leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, informed reporters that the investigation agency had requested the postponement.
He explained that the ED's lawyer sought to delay the proceedings due to the ongoing status of the case in the Supreme Court. Banerjee clarified that he is appearing on behalf of Mamata Banerjee as the president of the All India Trinamool Congress, not in her capacity as Chief Minister. Additionally, he mentioned that allegations had been made against the court in this special leave petition.
Banerjee further stated that they are prepared to have the case heard in the High Court. He emphasized that they are ready to proceed with the case, asserting that a hearing should take place. The court noted that since the ED requested a delay based on the pending special leave petition, and the defendants' lawyers expressed their willingness to participate in the hearing, the case has been postponed until the Supreme Court resolves the special leave petition.
Recent Developments in the Case
Earlier today, the Calcutta High Court addressed TMC's petition concerning the recent raid at the I-PAC premises and the residence of its director, Pratik Jain, located in Kolkata. The ED clarified that nothing was seized during the raid.
