Cachar District's Election Preparations

Silchar, March 17: The Cachar district administration is gearing up for a closely monitored electoral process by designating 95 polling stations as 'critical.' This initiative is part of a comprehensive plan aimed at ensuring a secure, transparent election with high voter turnout.

During an all-party meeting at the District Commissioner's Conference Hall in Silchar, District Commissioner and Election Officer Aayush Garg revealed that 35 polling stations have been marked as 'critical' due to their history of unusually high voter turnout. He elaborated on the district's preparedness for the upcoming elections.

"Out of 1,732 polling stations in Cachar, 95 have been classified as critical after a thorough analysis of past election data and security evaluations. Among these, 35 stations were flagged for having voter turnout rates exceeding 90% and voting patterns that favored a single candidate, necessitating enhanced monitoring," Garg stated.

The remaining 60 polling stations have been categorized as sensitive based on intelligence and police reports.

In a notable logistical change, polling personnel will be deployed across all seven Assembly constituencies simultaneously, two days prior to the election. This marks a shift from the previous phased deployment, allowing for better preparation on the ground.

As of now, 12 companies of the Central Armed Police Force have been stationed in the district, with the possibility of additional forces being called in as needed.

The administration aims to boost voter turnout from the 81% recorded in 2021, targeting an increase of 2-3%. Specifically, they are focusing on voters aged 18 and above, with an overall goal of achieving an 85% turnout this election.

In areas with limited connectivity, 18 polling stations will be monitored through CCTV surveillance.

Additionally, in a move towards promoting gender inclusivity, nearly 400 polling stations will be staffed entirely by female personnel, according to the District Commissioner.

Dedicated monitoring teams, consisting of officials from both police and civil administration, have been assigned to oversee and respond to any false or provocative content.
