Just hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement, the central cabinet approved a draft bill aimed at imposing stringent penalties for those involved in paper leak incidents. Sources indicate that during a cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister at the Parliament complex, the draft bill was given the green light, proposing harsher punishments compared to existing laws for individuals implicated in paper leaks. In a video message released around midnight on Thursday, PM Modi stated that a bill containing strict provisions against paper leaks would be introduced in Parliament next week.

Context of the Announcement

This announcement comes amidst protests organized by the Cockroach Public Party (CJP), which are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, accountability for examination irregularities, reforms in the education system, and compensation of ₹1 crore for the families of students who committed suicide following the NEET-UG paper leak in May.
