Hyderabad, September 28: Authorities reported that a cab driver allegedly tried to sexually assault a woman and stole Rs 60,000 from her near Shamshabad, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place on the night of September 26, close to the location of the infamous 2019 Disha case, but it only came to light on September 28. The 38-year-old victim, who resides in Devarkonda, Nalgonda district, filed a complaint at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) Police Station, prompting the police to register a First Information Report (FIR).

According to her statement, she hailed a taxi in Jadcherla around 6 p.m. on September 26, carrying Rs 60,000 in cash. Upon reaching Shamshabad, the driver requested an additional Rs 50 to take her to Gachibowli, which she accepted. The FIR indicates that after passing the Tondupally toll gate, the driver stopped at a medical shop on the ORR service road to purchase medicines.

Assault and Theft

At approximately 8:30 p.m., the driver halted the vehicle in a secluded area near the Kothwalguda service road, where he allegedly attempted to molest her. When she screamed and exited the vehicle, the driver seized her bag containing the cash and fled the scene.

Following the complaint filed that same night, police initiated an investigation and registered a case under various sections of the law. This area is notably close to where a tragic incident occurred in 2019, involving the gang rape and murder of a 27-year-old veterinarian, which sparked widespread public outrage.

The victim of the 2019 case, referred to as Disha, was found dead the following day, leading to national headlines and significant public outcry. The four suspects in that case were later killed by police in an alleged encounter, which prompted the Supreme Court to establish an inquiry commission to investigate the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
