Businessman Kidnapped and Robbed in Thane: Key Suspect Arrested
Arrest Made in Thane Kidnapping Case
Authorities have apprehended a suspect involved in a case where a businessman was lured to Thane, Maharashtra, under the pretense of investment, only to be held hostage in several hotels and robbed of over two crore rupees. This information was disclosed by officials on Thursday.
According to a police officer, the incident occurred between December 15 and 18, 2025. The main suspect, Ankit Bapu Thombre, aged 40, a resident of Manpada in Thane, was arrested on January 6.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal stated that the arrest was made by the Crime Branch Unit One of the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar Police Commissionerate. The victim has been identified as Shamanthkumar Shadak Sharappa Kardar, a 31-year-old businessman from Shimoga, Karnataka.
On December 15, 2025, the victim received a call from an individual claiming to be Ankit, who expressed interest in investing in his company. Trusting the proposal, the victim traveled to Kashimira in Thane district. However, the suspect took him to three different hotels between December 15 and 18, where he was held captive.
Following the victim's complaint, Kashimira police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Thombre and his accomplices on January 2, under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which include attempted murder, wrongful confinement, and provisions of the Arms Act.
