KOKRAJHAR, Nov 7: In a recent gathering at the Bodoland Territorial Council Secretariat, the BTC Executive Council, led by Chief Hagrama Mohilary, has committed to hastening the distribution of land pattas to families without land and to reassess policies related to land ownership.

After the meeting, Mohilary informed the press that approximately 8,000 land pattas have already been issued, with the remaining distributions expected to be finalized in the coming weeks. He noted that landless beneficiaries would be required to pay a nominal fee of Rs 101 to receive their pattas. Additionally, the Council has decided to form a committee to explore the possibility of lowering the premiums associated with land transactions.

The meeting also focused on evaluating the progress of ongoing development initiatives and discussed strategies to enhance governance, transparency, and inclusive development throughout the Bodoland Territorial Region.

On the political side, Mohilary emphasized that the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) would not endorse any renewed efforts for a separate Bodoland State, which is reportedly being contemplated by former members of the Bodo Volunteer Force.

He expressed concerns that a new agitation could disrupt the current peaceful environment and negatively impact the youth. While he acknowledged that the demand for Bodoland remains valid, he stated that the current situation does not warrant the initiation of another mass movement.

The BPF leader pointed out that extended protests often lead to social unrest, interruptions in daily life, and a loss of educational opportunities for students.

Reiterating the trust placed in the BTC administration by the people, he affirmed that maintaining peace and stability is the top priority.

In other news, Mohilary announced the Ustad Kamini Narzary Memorial Cultural Festival, set to take place at Halowadal Jijiri ground in Kokrajhar from November 7 to 9. He also mentioned that the ten-day Daojwng Festival will begin on January 11.

Deputy Chief of BTC Rihon Daimary and several Executive Members were present at the meeting.
