BSF Trooper Loses Life in Bandipora Fire Incident
Tragic Fire Claims Life of BSF Personnel in Jammu and Kashmir
Srinagar, January 12: A tragic incident occurred on Monday when a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper lost his life due to a fire in the Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The fire and emergency services department reported that the blaze was detected at Madar, Bandipora, around 2:34 a.m. Emergency teams from the District Fire Headquarters were dispatched immediately. Due to the intensity of the flames, additional support was also called in.
Upon arrival, responders found that a wooden barrack covered with GCI sheets was completely engulfed in flames. The fire's severity made immediate rescue efforts impossible. The barrack contained three rooms, two of which were occupied by BSF personnel, while one served as a barber shop.
Firefighting efforts commenced promptly, and the flames were eventually subdued. Following the cooling process, the remains of one individual were discovered in the wreckage of the burned barrack.
The deceased was identified as Ramesh Kumar, a washerman with the 62 Battalion BSF. His body has been transferred to the higher authorities of the 62 Battalion for necessary legal procedures.
The operation was led by LFM Ghulam Nabi, under the direct oversight of Assistant Director Mohammad Arif Mir, with coordination from Mobilising Officer Aijaz Ahmad Shah. Investigations into the cause of the fire are currently underway.
Further information regarding the incident is awaited.
During winter, fire incidents are often linked to electrical appliances and heating methods. In Kashmir, electric short circuits and heating devices, including wood or charcoal heaters, frequently lead to such unfortunate events. Past incidents have also highlighted the dangers of overheating electric blankets.
