Dismissal of BSF Constable Over Forged Documents

Jorhat, Sept 30: A constable from the Border Security Force (BSF) has been terminated from his position after the Jorhat district administration confirmed that the domicile and Other Backward Class (OBC) caste certificates he provided during his recruitment were fraudulent.

The individual, identified as Sateesh Chandra, son of Umrao Singh, was serving as a Constable (GD) with the 'C' Company of the 54 Battalion BSF.

As per the dismissal order issued by the Commandant of the 54 Battalion BSF on August 20, 2026, Chandra's domicile and OBC certificates were forwarded to the Jorhat district administration for verification.

The investigation revealed that the domicile certificate number cited in his documents actually belonged to an annual income certificate issued to a different individual from Chamar Doloni Gaon in the Biswanath district.

Furthermore, the verification of the OBC certificate showed no records in the Judicial Branch of the Deputy Commissioner’s office, labeling the document as 'completely fabricated.'

Jorhat Additional Commissioner Pankaj Borah stated that the administration received communication from the BSF regarding Chandra after his name appeared in an FIR filed in July.

“Recently, we received an order from the Commanding Officer of the 54 Battalion BSF, dated August 20, indicating that Sateesh Chandra, son of Umrao Singh, was mentioned in our second FIR from July 11. The address provided by him is also false. Disciplinary measures are being taken, leading to his termination,” Borah explained.

The BSF's order specified that Chandra's appointment was contingent upon the verification of his character, educational qualifications, caste certificate, and permanent residency status.

After the verification process, Chandra was issued a show-cause notice. In his response, he reportedly acknowledged submitting the domicile and OBC certificates during his recruitment.

Consequently, the competent authority mandated his dismissal from service effective August 20, 2026, without any pension or financial benefits.

This incident is part of a broader initiative by the Jorhat district administration to combat the use of forged certificates for employment purposes.

Borah mentioned that an FIR was lodged on May 27 against six candidates who allegedly utilized fake certificates purportedly issued by the district administration to obtain jobs in various offices.

“Additionally, on July 11, we filed complaints against 11 individuals when they came for certificate verification,” he added.

The district administration is actively pursuing verification and legal actions in cases involving the alleged use of counterfeit certificates.
