Tragic Incident in Connaught Place

Connaught Place, the bustling heart of the capital, is once again in the spotlight, but this time due to a tragic murder rather than its usual vibrancy. Shivam Gupta, a 36-year-old businessman from East Delhi, succumbed to his injuries after being viciously attacked by a group of delivery boys on the night of January 2.

The brutal assault on Shivam, which occurred during a late-night altercation in Connaught Place, has reignited concerns regarding public safety in one of the city's busiest commercial areas.

Details of the Attack

The incident took place near the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, where Shivam was enjoying a night out with friends. According to police reports, the conflict erupted when he requested some water from a group of delivery partners. What began as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into violence, with approximately three individuals reportedly attacking him.

As per reports, the delivery riders initially struck Shivam with a helmet before brutally kicking and punching him. They left him unconscious and bleeding on the street.

Emergency Response

A PCR call was received by the police around 1:30 AM on January 3, alerting them to a man lying unconscious and bloodied on the road. Shivam was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors discovered multiple severe head injuries and hematomas. Due to his critical condition, he was unable to provide a statement.

Meanwhile, Shivam's family grew increasingly worried when he failed to return home that night. After several unsuccessful attempts to reach him, they received a call from the police informing them of his hospitalization, leaving them in shock.

Medical Intervention and Aftermath

On January 4, Shivam was transferred to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, where he underwent surgery the following day. Doctors informed the family that the next 36 to 72 hours would be crucial. Although there were some signs of improvement, Shivam ultimately lost his battle for life on January 19.

Police officials reported that they examined the crime scene, collected blood-stained evidence, and reviewed CCTV footage from the area. An initial case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, with indications that more charges may be added as the investigation progresses. So far, two suspects have been arrested, while efforts continue to identify others involved.

Family's Plea for Justice

The victim's family has alleged that Shivam was attacked using a helmet as a weapon. A family member stated, "Our son was brutally murdered. We demand strict action against the perpetrators to prevent other families from experiencing this pain."
