Family Describes the Horrific Attack on Chandra Das

The family of Chandra Das expressed their horror on Friday regarding the brutal assault he suffered, stating that the motives behind the attack remain unclear, as he was known to be a peaceful individual. Das is currently receiving treatment in Dhaka for burns covering 30 percent of his body. His wife, Seema Das, spoke with disbelief, holding their infant in her arms, recounting how he was ambushed just as he was about to enter their home. She explained that her husband, a businessman, was attacked by a mob that doused him in petrol and set him ablaze. 'He is a patient man who leads a peaceful life and harbors no ill will towards anyone. We cannot comprehend the reason behind this attack,' she stated.


Details of the Attack Emerge

Anjana Rani Das, the victim's sister, revealed that Chandra was severely injured after being struck on the head with sticks and was left bleeding. The assault occurred around 8:30 PM, during which the mob attacked him and set him on fire. She noted that he attempted to escape by jumping into water while screaming for help. Saurabh Das, Chandra's nephew, informed that he rushed to the hospital upon hearing about the attack and found his uncle in critical condition. 'As soon as I learned about the attack, I hurried to the hospital. The police have arrived at the scene and are investigating. My uncle's face and hands were severely burned,' he said.


Calls for Justice and Investigation

Another nephew, Pranto Das, demanded a thorough investigation into the incident. 'We want a detailed inquiry and for the culprits to be brought to justice. My uncle had no enemies. He is currently in the ICU and his condition is extremely critical,' he stated. He described how a bloodthirsty gang surrounded Chandra with the intent to kill him. The attackers reportedly assaulted him with sharp weapons in Damudya, Shariatpur, before setting him on fire with petrol. According to local reports, the incident took place near the Keurbhanga market in the Kaneshwar Union around 8:30 PM on Wednesday. Local residents later rescued him and transported him to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, where he received initial emergency treatment. Due to his deteriorating condition, he was transferred to Dhaka for further medical care that same night.
