British Beer Prices Set to Drop Significantly in India
Exciting News for Beer Lovers
During the summer months, beer consumption tends to rise, often leading to shortages of favorite brands in stores. However, there's no need for disappointment anymore. If you enjoy a cold beer in the summer, this news will surely delight you.
Following a recent trade agreement between India and the UK, significant reductions in import duties on British beer and Scotch whisky have been announced. This means that beers previously priced at 200 rupees could now be available for just 50 rupees. On May 6, a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) was established between India and the UK, which has reduced the tax on imported beer from 150% to 75%. As a result, British beer brands are expected to be offered at more affordable prices.
Moreover, the Indian beer market is projected to reach approximately 50,000 crore rupees by 2024, with increasing popularity due to changing lifestyles and social culture. The highest beer consumption in India is observed in southern states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. Goa, known for its liberal alcohol laws and tourist influx, is also a major hub for beer. Additionally, cities in northern India, such as Delhi and Chandigarh, show good beer consumption rates.

Under the FTA, not only beer but also the import duty on Scotch whisky from the UK has been reduced from 150% to 75%. However, no concessions have been made on British wine, meaning wine prices will remain unchanged. This development allows British beer to be sold at lower prices in India, directly benefiting beer enthusiasts and further strengthening trade relations between India and the UK.
