'Victory of Truth': Son Celebrates Court Ruling

On Monday, BJP MP Karan Bhushan Singh expressed his approval of the court's decision to acquit his father, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), in a case involving allegations of sexual harassment against women wrestlers. He described the verdict as a triumph for truth, young athletes, and the constituency of Kaiserganj.

After the ruling from the Rouse Avenue Court, Karan Bhushan Singh thanked the judiciary and challenged the political factions that had criticized his father during the scandal, asking if they would now recognize the injustice he faced. "I extend my gratitude to the court. This is a victory for truth, young wrestlers, and Kaiserganj. We stand resilient before the nation. Will those who opposed my father now admit that he was wronged?" he stated.

Reactions to the Court's Decision

In response to the court's ruling, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh claimed he had been "honorably" acquitted, asserting that the legal struggle had only fortified his resolve. "I have not just been acquitted; I have been honorably cleared... Adversity leads to growth... I have no comments for my detractors," remarked the former WFI chief.

Details of the Case and Court Proceedings

The case stemmed from an FIR lodged by female wrestlers during Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh's leadership at the WFI. The Delhi Police had charged him under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 354, 354D, 354A, 506 (1), and 109.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwani Panwar acquitted both Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and Vinod Tomar, with the proceedings held in a closed courtroom. The court is expected to release a detailed judgment soon.

On July 2, the court reserved its judgment regarding the sexual harassment allegations against Singh and Tomar, who were implicated in claims of misconduct involving women wrestlers both domestically and internationally during Singh's tenure at the WFI.

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was represented by Advocate Rajiv Mohan, with assistance from Rehan Khan and Rishabh Bhati, while Senior Advocate Rebecca John represented the complainants. The arguments concluded on June 30.

Women wrestlers had previously staged a protest at Jantar Mantar, leading to the filing of an FIR by the Delhi Police based on their complaints. Following an investigation, a comprehensive 1500-page charge sheet was submitted on June 15, 2023, detailing the allegations against Singh and Tomar under the aforementioned IPC sections.
