Brazil's World Cup Journey Begins with Draw Against Morocco
Ancelotti Remains Positive After Opening Match
Brazil's head coach, Carlo Ancelotti, expressed a hopeful outlook following his team's 1-1 draw with Morocco in their FIFA World Cup 2026 opener. He emphasized that the five-time champions are committed to enhancing their performance as the tournament unfolds.
In a post shared on X the day after the Group C match, Ancelotti stated, "Yesterday we took the first step in the World Cup. We did it with joy and pride representing Brazil. This is just the beginning. We will continue to work and look forward. Let's go together!"
This message showcased the Italian coach's resolve to progress despite the disappointing start at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Brazil faced a determined Moroccan team.
Morocco's Resilience in the Opener
Ancelotti, who made history as the first non-Brazilian to manage Brazil at a FIFA World Cup, recognized that his team did not meet expectations, especially in the first half. Morocco took an early lead in the 21st minute with Ismael Saibari scoring after a quick counter-attack, assisted by Brahim Diaz. Brazil equalized 11 minutes later when Vinicius Jr. skillfully curled a right-footed shot into the top corner.
Ancelotti Acknowledges Brazil's Struggles
After the match, Ancelotti admitted that Brazil had difficulty maintaining balance and were careless with the ball. "We did not play well: there were a few challenges, the team was very imbalanced, we lost several balls, and we need to improve in that area," he remarked.
In the second half, Brazil displayed better control following several substitutions and had more possession, but Morocco's solid defense thwarted their attempts to score. Both goalkeepers, Bono and Alisson, were kept busy as the match featured a total of 27 shots.
Ancelotti's Mixed Feelings on the Result
Despite the draw, Ancelotti chose not to overreact, emphasizing that the outcome of World Cups is not determined by the first match alone. "I am not disappointed by this result, and I'm not satisfied either," he stated, hinting at potential lineup changes for future games.
Upcoming Matches in Group C
Brazil's next challenge will be against Haiti in Group C, while Morocco is set to face Scotland, as both teams aim to solidify their chances of advancing to the knockout stages.
