Jaipur, May 13: A bomb threat was reported at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital in Jaipur on Wednesday, leading to widespread alarm among patients, staff, and visitors. In response, police units, bomb disposal teams, canine units, and Civil Defence personnel quickly arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough search of the hospital grounds.
According to officials, the hospital received a threatening message demanding a ransom of Rs 40 crore, which heightened the sense of urgency.
The warning was reportedly sent to the Abhay Command Centre, indicating that the hospital would be targeted unless the money was paid.
In light of the threat, law enforcement and various investigative agencies initiated a comprehensive security operation at the hospital. Teams from the police, fire department, and dog units were deployed, and an extensive search is currently in progress throughout the hospital premises. Security personnel are meticulously examining all suspicious items and locations. Authorities are also probing the origin of the threat while ensuring increased security measures at the facility. Fortunately, no suspicious items were discovered after a detailed inspection.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of hoax threats in the region. Dr. Mrinal Joshi, the Superintendent of SMS Hospital, stated, "A bomb threat was reported to the Police Control Room. Following this, police and other teams conducted a thorough search of the hospital; however, no suspicious items were found. The police are investigating the situation."
In recent months, Rajasthan authorities have heightened security due to a series of bomb threats aimed at significant public institutions and landmarks. Previous threats have targeted the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, the Rajasthan High Court, educational institutions, airports, and court-collectorate complexes.
While past investigations have not uncovered any explosives, officials continue to treat each threat with the utmost seriousness, adhering to established security protocols. Jaipur has seen the highest frequency of bomb threat incidents in the state, with over 20 cases reported in 2024 and an increase to 34 in 2025. Jodhpur follows with 10 incidents in 2024 and nine in 2025. Other cities, including Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Alwar, and Sri Ganganagar, have also experienced a notable rise in such threats.
Police sources indicate that Rajasthan has received nearly 40 bomb threat alerts since the beginning of this year alone. In comparison, the state recorded around 40 cases in 2024 and 55 in 2025.
Investigators have identified schools, airports, and court-collectorate complexes as primary targets for these threats. Officials have noted that threats communicated via email and social media platforms pose significant technical and cyber-investigation challenges for law enforcement.
Despite numerous investigations, authorities have yet to identify or apprehend those responsible for these threats. While most alerts are ultimately revealed to be hoaxes, agencies are obligated to respond to each incident with comprehensive security measures to ensure public safety.
