Discovery of the Body

In the Nebua Naurangia police jurisdiction of Kushinagar district, authorities have discovered the body of a woman who had been missing for 26 days, hidden in a sugarcane field. According to police reports released on Monday, the woman is believed to have been murdered by strangulation, with suspicion falling on a distant relative.


Circumstances of Disappearance

The 40-year-old woman was last seen heading towards the fields on the evening of November 26. After she failed to return for an extended period, her son reported her missing to the police on November 29, prompting an investigation.


Suspect Identification

Investigators identified a distant relative named Basant, residing in Piprahia, as a person of interest. When police visited his residence, he was found to be missing, and his mobile phone was turned off.


Arrest and Investigation

On Saturday evening, police tracked Basant's location and apprehended him at his home. Initially, he claimed ignorance of the incident, but after further questioning, he confessed to the crime. Authorities recovered the mutilated body from the sugarcane field and completed necessary procedures. The forensic team also gathered crucial evidence. Deepak Kumar Singh, the station chief of Nebua Naurangia, confirmed that the suspect has been arrested, and further actions are underway, including a post-mortem and DNA testing.
