New Delhi: Following a significant reshuffle of its national office-bearers, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed new leaders for Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Gujarat, effective immediately.
As per an official announcement, BJP national president Nitin Nabin has designated Vinod Tawde, a national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, as the new in-charge for Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel has been appointed as co-in-charge for the state, which is gearing up for elections next year.
In Punjab, Dr. Satish Poonia, also a national general secretary and Rajya Sabha MP, will take on the role of state in-charge. Meanwhile, Tarun Chugh, who serves as the BJP’s national headquarters in-charge and is a Rajya Sabha MP, has been assigned to oversee Gujarat.
These appointments are effective immediately, with further announcements regarding other states expected soon. Until then, the current arrangements will remain in place.
This reshuffle follows the unveiling of a new national team by the party president, indicating a significant organizational change under his leadership. The BJP's restructuring aims to blend experienced leaders with fresh talent, focusing on both continuity and renewal.
This organizational shift is crucial as the BJP braces for upcoming political challenges at the state level and prepares for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. The new appointments are anticipated to enhance collaboration between the party's central leadership and its state branches.
The announcement of the BJP's new national team included several senior leaders retaining or gaining significant roles, alongside the return of notable figures.
Piyush Goyal has been appointed as the national treasurer, a noteworthy position given his experience as Union Commerce and Industry Minister.
Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has been named national vice-president, while Smriti Irani makes a return as the party's General Secretary.
To bolster the BJP's outreach to women, Roop Kumari Choudhary has been elevated to the position of Mahila Morcha President, particularly in states where the party aims to grow its influence.
The North-East region is represented by Biplab Deb, the former Chief Minister of Tripura, who has been appointed as General Secretary.
