In a bold demonstration, the BJP's women's wing in Odisha protested against Rahul Gandhi, burning his effigy over the Congress party's silence regarding the dismissal of JNU professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam amid sexual harassment allegations. Led by Aishwarya Biswal, the protest highlighted perceived hypocrisy in Congress's claims of supporting women's empowerment. BJP Activists Stage Protest in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: On Saturday, members of the BJP's women's wing in Odisha set fire to an effigy of Rahul Gandhi, expressing their discontent over the Congress party's lack of response regarding the dismissal of professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam from Jawaharlal Nehru University amid allegations of sexual harassment.

Akoijam, who taught at the Centre for the Study of Social Systems within JNU's School of Social Sciences, has denied the accusations, challenging his critics to provide proof of their claims.

In the state capital, BJP activists, led by Aishwarya Biswal, the president of the party's Mahila Morcha, organized a demonstration outside the Congress Bhavan.

Biswal stated, "From Rahul Gandhi to the Congress leadership at both the central and state levels, there has been a conspicuous silence on this matter. We are here to protest against Rahul Gandhi's hypocrisy, especially since he advocates for women's empowerment. We have burned effigies of both Rahul Gandhi and Professor Akoijam."

During a press briefing at the BJP's state headquarters, Biswal criticized the Congress party's claims regarding women's empowerment as insincere. She remarked, "Their leaders exhibit anti-women behavior both in Parliament and beyond."

She emphasized the cultural significance of teachers in India, stating, "In our culture, a teacher is revered like a deity. It is completely unacceptable to misbehave with students, who should be treated with utmost respect. Professor Akoijam's conduct has sullied the revered Guru-Shishya tradition."

Additionally, Biswal accused Gandhi of violating parliamentary decorum and disrespecting women in public life, alleging that he had made inappropriate comments about President Draupadi Murmu.
