BJP Unveils Promises for Assam's Development Ahead of 2026 Elections

The BJP has launched its manifesto for the 2026 Assam elections, highlighting commitments to development, job creation, and the preservation of Assamese identity. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, along with key party leaders, outlined plans for implementing a Uniform Civil Code and investing in infrastructure. The manifesto reflects a decade of achievements and aims to create a safe and prosperous Assam. With significant public input, the BJP is gearing up for what they deem a crucial election for the state's future.
 

BJP's Vision for Assam: Key Commitments Unveiled

The Union Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, presented the BJP's manifesto on Tuesday, outlining the party's major commitments towards development, welfare, youth employment, education, healthcare, and the preservation of Assamese identity and indigenous communities. The event was attended by Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Dilip Saikia, and other dignitaries. Sitharaman emphasized that the manifesto for the 2026 Assam elections promises to protect land, heritage, and the dignity of indigenous people.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced plans to implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across Assam, excluding areas under the Sixth Schedule and Scheduled Tribes. He pledged to create 200,000 jobs and take strict measures against love jihad. Additionally, he stated that efforts would be made to make Assam flood-free, with an investment of ₹18,000 crores in the first two years. The goal is to establish one medical college, one university, and one engineering college in each district.




Dilip Saikia, the president of Assam BJP, highlighted the party's aim to create a safe and developed Assam. He noted that the 2026 elections are crucial for the people of Assam, and the BJP is committed to ensuring safety in the state. The party has received 2.4 million suggestions from various regions to prepare the manifesto.




Finance Minister Sitharaman remarked that the manifesto is based on a decade of achievements, stating that the transformation seen in Assam was not possible during the Congress's 60 years of governance. After releasing the manifesto for the assembly elections, she pointed out that Assam endured 32 years of turmoil due to Congress policies, asserting that peace and development in Assam can only be achieved through stability.

Nirmala Sitharaman stated that the opportunities created under BJP governance have encouraged Assamese youth to return to the state. She criticized Congress for neglecting the long-term development of the Northeast and emphasized that the BJP's manifesto reflects a decade of progress that Congress failed to achieve in 60 years. The BJP's 'Sankalp Patra' includes 31 points, and she noted that Prime Minister Modi has visited the Northeast 77 times, while the Congress MP from Assam, who became Prime Minister, likely visited only about 10 times.
