With the Assam Assembly elections approaching, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its initial list of 88 candidates on Thursday, March 19. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will contest from Jalukbari. The list also features senior leader and former state party chief Ranjit Kumar Das, who will run from Bhawanipur-Sorbhog, and former Congress member Pradyut Bordoloi, who recently joined the BJP, contesting from Dispur. Minister Jayant Malla Barua will stand for election from Nalbari, while Chandra Mohan Patowary will contest from Tihu. Vishwajit Daimari is set to run from Tamulpur, and Ranoj Pegu will contest from Dhemaji. Bijoy Malakar will represent Ram Krishna Nagar.

Additionally, Dr. Rajdeep Roy from Silchar and Pallav Lochan Das from Bishwanath have been nominated. The first candidate list was finalized during a meeting of the BJP's central election committee, chaired by party president Nitin Nabin. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and other members of the BJP election committee, including Assam unit chief Dilip Saikia.
