Lucknow, September 29: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has revealed its list of ten candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council elections in 2026, targeting the Graduate and Teachers' constituencies in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. These elections are set to occur on October 23.

In Uttar Pradesh, 11 seats across Graduate and Teachers' constituencies are up for election next month.

The BJP has nominated six candidates for various constituencies, including Varanasi, Jhansi, Meerut, Agra, and Gorakhpur.

The candidates include Kedar Nath Singh for Varanasi Graduate, Dinesh Goyal for Meerut Graduate, Ashok Kumar Rathore for Allahabad-Jhansi Graduate, Dr. Pramod Mishra for Varanasi Teachers', Engineer Hari Kishore Tiwari for Agra Teachers', and Dhruv Tripathi for Gorakhpur-Faizabad Teachers' constituency.

This election in Uttar Pradesh is shaping up to be a direct contest between the BJP and the Samajwadi Party (SP), both of which are actively campaigning.

The SP, led by Akhilesh Yadav, has also announced its full slate of candidates for the MLC elections. During a media briefing in Lucknow on Monday, Yadav urged support for his party's nominees.

The notification for the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council elections was issued on Tuesday. Candidates must file their nominations by October 6, with scrutiny scheduled for October 7. Nominations can be withdrawn until October 9, and voting will occur on October 23.

Results for the Uttar Pradesh MLC elections are expected to be declared on October 27.

In Bihar, elections will be held for eight MLC seats, divided equally between Graduate and Teachers' constituencies, including Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut, and Kosi for Graduates, and Patna, Darbhanga, Tirhut, and Saran for Teachers.

Alongside the announcement of candidates for Uttar Pradesh, the BJP also disclosed its nominees for four Legislative Council seats in Bihar for the upcoming biennial elections.
