Itanagar, June 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Arunachal Pradesh has expressed its unwavering support for Chief Minister Pema Khandu amidst ongoing speculation regarding his political future due to a Supreme Court-ordered CBI investigation. The party emphasized that there will be no leadership changes while the inquiry is active.

This statement follows reports from an Assam-based news outlet suggesting that Khandu might resign due to the CBI probe, which sparked widespread speculation on social media throughout the state.

In April, the Supreme Court mandated a preliminary CBI investigation into allegations that public work contracts totaling around Rs 1,270 crore were awarded to companies purportedly connected to Khandu's family between 2015 and 2025. The investigation is currently ongoing.

During a press conference at the party's headquarters, State BJP president Kaling Moyong stated that the party respects the judicial process and will refrain from making any decisions until the investigation concludes.

“Should the Supreme Court rule against the Chief Minister, the party will respond accordingly. However, for now, we await the investigation's outcome,” Moyong remarked.

Senior BJP officials in the state reiterated their unity, asserting that there has been no discussion regarding a leadership change, despite unverified reports circulating on social media.

Reaffirming support for Khandu, BJP general secretary Tadar Niglar stated that all party legislators stand united under his leadership, dismissing any notions of division within the party.

“All 46 party MLAs are united and operate under one leadership. There is no factionalism within the party,” Niglar asserted.

He cautioned that disciplinary measures would be taken against anyone found spreading false information about the Chief Minister's supposed resignation.

“If any BJP member is responsible for this misinformation, we will take strict action against them,” Niglar added.

Another BJP general secretary, Junty Singpho, expressed faith in both the judicial system and the Chief Minister, asserting that the truth will prevail through the legal process.

“We trust in the judiciary and our Chief Minister. We are confident he will be exonerated from these allegations,” she stated.

In a related development, the Itanagar district unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) filed a complaint at the Itanagar police station against the publication that reported on Khandu's alleged resignation.

According to a statement from the BJYM shared on their official Facebook page, the organization accused the publication of disseminating false and misleading information aimed at creating confusion and destabilizing the political environment in Arunachal Pradesh, and called for legal action against those responsible.
