BJP Spokesperson Condemns Congress Leader's Comparison of Rahul Gandhi to Lord Ram
Controversial Remarks Spark Outrage
On Thursday, BJP spokesperson C.R. Keshavan criticized Maharashtra Congress MLA Nana Patole for comparing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to Lord Ram, labeling the statement as a severe insult to Hindu sentiments. Patole had remarked that Rahul Gandhi is "fighting for justice," akin to the efforts of Lord Ram for the oppressed. In a post, Keshavan challenged Patole, questioning why Rahul Gandhi has not yet visited the Ayodhya Ram Temple.
Keshavan expressed on social media that Patole's comparison of Lord Ram to Rahul Gandhi is a blatant affront to the faith and emotions of millions of Hindu devotees, which he deemed unacceptable. He recalled that after President Droupadi Murmu visited the divine Ram Temple to pray for the nation's welfare, Patole embarrassingly called for the purification of the Ayodhya Ram Temple. Keshavan condemned Patole's comments and questioned whether he would dare ask Rahul Gandhi why he mocked the consecration ceremony and the festivities or why he has yet to visit the temple.
In response to questions about Rahul Gandhi's absence from the Ram Temple, Patole stated that the Congress is working in the spirit of Lord Ram. He told a news agency that their leader, Rahul Gandhi, is engaged in the same work as Lord Ram, advocating for justice for the people of the country. He recalled that when the Ram Lalla Temple was locked, the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi ordered its opening. Patole assured that when Rahul Gandhi visits Ayodhya, he will perform prayers there.
Previously, Patole faced backlash for likening Rahul Gandhi to Hindu deities. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra in October 2022, he mentioned that it was a "coincidence" that both names start with 'R', but clarified that the Congress party does not equate Rahul Gandhi with Lord Ram.
